My name is Amanda Thoden van Velzen at Calmer Thoughts. I am based in Cranleigh which is easily accessible to Godalming, Guildford, Horsham, Haslemere, Dorking, Farnham and Woking.

I am a qualified, accredited Solution-Focused Therapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. I am a registered member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and adhere to their high codes of conduct and ethics. I have a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) certificate and am fully insured.
Rather than looking back at the past, I look at where you are now, focus on how you would like your life to be and help to move you forward. I use practical, modern and well researched strategies to help you make significant and positive changes in your life in a relatively short period of time. Using the latest research in neuroscience, I explain how our brains work, why we are all programmed instinctively to react as we do to stress and anxiety, how this can effect everything we do and most importantly how we can use this knowledge to reprogram how we think and behave.
We all go into trance regularly, sometimes as often as every 7 minutes, when driving a familiar route, reading a book or daydreaming. It's a natural state, similar to the feeling of when we first wake up or just about to fall asleep - its incredibly relaxing and calming. When you are in a trance we have direct access to the subconscious mind and any suggestions that are made are much more powerful.

When I went to see Amanda for the first time I was in a very difficult place, Amanda was recommended to me by a very dear friend as I trusted her judgement I booked my first appointment. I was incredibly scared about everything so even doing something to help myself was a challenge. Amanda was so gentle,kind and supportive and even managed over the weeks to make me laugh. She is immensely warm and calming and the environment is like a little calm haven. Amanda is very honest and I would highly recommend her, it's a shame that Amanda and her amazing work can't be given out on prescription. The techniques she teaches you can be put into practice at any time which is very helpful. For me I am now in a much better place and that is mainly down to help from Amanda so a massive thank you I feel like my old self again.
I can only say a big thank you to Amanda, she has made such a big difference to my life and how I deal with and feel about certain situations. She has helped retrain my brain to feel more positive and get rid of negative thoughts.
